CESENATICO-ITALIA  (PrensaMare)  Una Etapa 12 con 204 Km (Cesenatico-Cesenatico) corriéndose en el llano. Un recorrido sin cotas extremas y sin grandes dificultades, donde –nuevamente- todo se presentó bien para los velocistas. Se impuso el ecuatorian Jhonatan Narváez.

Una carrera que desde el mar Adriático se disputó hacia ‘adentro’ de la península, pasando por Forlimpopoli, Ciola, Barbotto, Perticara, Madonna di Pugliano, San Giovanni in Galilea, Savignano Sul Rubicone, y arribo nuevamente a Cesenatico.

A 74 km de la largada, se escaparon 14 ciclistas, sin que muchos de los equipos reaccionaran. Inclusive le sacaron 12’ 35’’ de ventaja, y –al parecer- muchos no quisieron malgastar energías.

Los líderes que se intercalaban a la cabeza fueron: François Bidard, Simon Pellaud, Manuele Boaro, Mark Padun, Cesare Benedetti, Joey Rosskopf, Jesper Hansen, Simon Clarke, Héctor Carretero, Albert Torres, Victor Campenaerts, Jhonatan Narváez, Maximiliano Richeze, y Etienne van Empel.

A 87 km de la llegada, la cabeza aventajaba por 7´23’’ al grupo perseguidor. Inmediatamente, Simon Pellaud comenzó a sacar una mínima ventaja sobre el resto. Diez kilómetros más adelante eran 7 los que mandaban. Ya para esa altura el argentino Richeze se retrasa y se despide de la pelea.

Pellaud se quedó con el sprint intermedio. Ya entrando en los últimos 60 km la lluvia se hizo presente, estando Simon Clarke (Australia) como único líder (perseguido por un grupo de 6). El grupo aparecía a 4’ 15’’. A 48 km del final se cortaron Padun y Narváez. Ya para esa altura la lluvia y el frió se transformó en protagonista.

Restando 27 km, mandaban Padun y Narváez; Clarke marchaba a 2’ 1’’; un grupo de 6 ciclistas se situaba a algo más de 4’; y a 6’ 30’’ el grupo perseguidor, con la lluvia como protagonista. A esta altura varios corredores habían tenido problemas mecánicos, donde alguno debió cambiar de bicicleta. Tanto que a 23,9 km, Padum debió detenerse y hacer el cambio, mientras Narvéz se escapaba (le sacó 28’’).

A 5 km del arribo Narváez se consolida sacándole 30’ a Padun. Manteniendo a Clarke a 4’; luego un grupo de 5 ciclistas, y a 6’ 54, el grupo mayor. Finalmente tras 5h 31’ 24’’ llega Narváez, superando por Padun por 1’ 08’’.

Esta etapa nuevamente quedó en manos ecuatorianas, pues Narváez se sumó al anterior triunfo de Jonathan Caicedo. No fue una etapa de alta montaña, pero igual llevó al sacrifició a los pedalistas. Mattia Bis (Italia) arrancó mal, con un problema mecánico que lo retrasó. Tras el retiro de los equipos Jumbo-Visma y Mitchelton-Scott, así como el del ciclista del Sunweb, Michael Matthews, el coronavirus afectó a 17 agentes encargados de la seguridad en la carrera. Los policías estuvieron en Abruzzo (entre domingo y lunes), al igual que los participantes de la carrera. Ninguno de ellos era de la ciudad; son agentes que han viajado con la caravana del Giro.

Questa tappa era di nuovo nelle mani dell'Ecuador, poiché Narváez si è unito al precedente trionfo di Jonathan Caicedo.
